Project Description

When creating a piece for this final project, I drew inspiration from cinematic choruses that came to mind. I wanted it to reflect a cinematic styles that included church style vocals mixed with stringed instruments.

The rhythm structure used is 4/4 meter. I used SolCal percussion for the kick, snare and High Hat of the first 16 measures. For the second 16, I kept the SoCal but added an electronic Ultrabeat Slow Jam Kit to give a different feel to it. For the bass, the first 16 measures I used a Retro Synth and the second 16 I used a Trap bass to give it a more hip-hop style. I followed the chords for the bass line using the root notes.

This piece was composed in A minor. I used A minor, C Major, F Major and E minor and D minor (as the 5th chord). I followed the root notes of those chords to create the melody. For the first 16 bars I used the Cathedral Organ for the melody and Expressive Trumpet for the melody. I layered additional instruments to give more of a cinematic effect including the gospel style vocals. In the second measure, I used a harp style sound for the chords and strings for the melody.

For the audio parts, I recorded my daughter saying “A”. I used it to only add a light effect to the song. For the sampler track, I used the Let’s Bounce Vox loop to give the second 16 bars a continued hip-hop feel. You can find these on track 21 and 23.

For the dynamic effects, I added a compressor to tracks 1, 4,5,6,13,14,15. I also added an EQ to these tracks as well. For the time-based effects, I added a plate reverb and large room reverb to all of the tracks to give more depth to the sound.
